everyone knows we have the rogue battle grounds. everyone knows that stallions can fight for land, position, and mares and mares can fight for land, position, mares and foals. let's say you have this character and you want them to have something that they have to fight for. what are you going to do??
first things first
` staff members are the only ones to judge.
` if a staff member is in a battle, then another staff member must judge.
` if two staff members battle, then - obviously - a different staff member does it.
` stallions can challenge one another for land, position, or mares. stallions = three year old males
` mares can challenge for land, position, mares, or foals. mares = four year old females
* mares are able to challenge for land, position, and other mares since mares are allowed to run lands now.
` power-playing is forbidden. if you don't know what that means, here's the definition. it's basically when you type up the horse (who isn't yours) reaction. like if i said:
vladimir lashed out an attack on sun runner, his ivories clung to the painted skin as it torn and blood poured out of the wound.
i can't say that because i don't know how sun runner is going to react. maybe sun runner managed to dodge my move and vlad catches his shoulder, instead, and not his neck. you only can decide what your character does, not what your opponent does. however, you can edit the above to make your attack clear:
vladimir lashed out an attack on sun runner, his ivories aimed for the painted skin that covered the jugular.
see? vlad doesn't actually get the bite in. in wicked's post, she'll describe how sun runner reacts.
*if a staff member catches power-playing, we'll make you edit it. power-playing is unfair and will not be tolerated.
` god modding. this can happen in battles too. it's when you make your character seemed indestructible. it's annoying. if vlad bites sun runner's jugular and sun runner doesn't suffer from the loss blood amount, that's annoying. the attacks must have some affect. if vlad kicks sun runner in the chest, sun runner should probably have trouble breathing. if sun runner pretty much cuts up vlad's back with his hooves, vlad better be sore and losing blood, maybe a little woozy.
*if a staff member catches this,, you'll have to edit it. there's nothing more annoying that a horse who can be perfect in battle. it's not realistic and we at mustang are proud to say that our site is pretty realistic.
issue a challenge
well, first you've got to challenge them. either let the member know through private message or post in the land board. but i highly suggest sending the member a message because if they don't realize they've been challenged, they don't even get a chance to protect what is theirs.
here's an example:
vladimir challenges sun runner to a battle for superb beach
vladimir is my character, sun runner is wicked's. so i'd send her a PM letting her know that my boy wants her boy's land. easy, right?
official opener
the one who challenges must start the thread in the rogue battle grounds. so, since my boy has challenged, sunny, i would post first. so here would be like my opener post for wicked to reply to:
VLADIMIR challenges SUN RUNNER
year nine : spring : superb beach : 1 of 2
the black stallion moved to the rogue battle grounds at his own pace. it would be stupid for him to rush and waste away his energy. blah blah blah. he was challenging the old sun runner for his land, superb beach. blah blah blah blah blah he lifted his mug in the air and summoned his opponent.
you get the gist of it right? basically, in the opening post you must include the following:
`who is challenging who
`the year and season
`the prize
`and if the prize is land, you must point out how many land challenges you've used. each member gets two a year and the staff keeps track of it.

`describe your character. his/her pre-battle feelings. how bad does he/she want the prize? are they ready to fight? how are they feeling health-wise?
` describe the setting. how's the weather? is it blazing hot or is a storm in the air? how does the arena smell? does it smell like hot flesh? blood? or just stinking dirt?
` when describing the setting, keep in mind the season. if it's summer, it might be warmer. spring might hold more storms, a like sprinkle. fall might have brisk breezes. and winter might old a frigid bite in the wind and some ice.
the battle
now everything is about to go down. you only get two attacks and no dodges. let's go back to my example:
vladimir: the opener post

sun runner: he arrives, uses first attack -- jugular bite
vladimir: moves so sunny's initial attack doesn't land but he gets vlad's mane and rips out some hairs. vladimir attacks -- kick to the chest

sun runner: sun runner moves slightly and vlad's attack lands on his shoulder instead of his chest. he uses his second attack -- damage with hooves
vladimir: can't really escape all the hooves so sun runner's attack lands. vlad uses his last attack which is a -- jugular bite

now, both stallions have used their attacks so they wait. wicked would have to make one last post, just to describe if vlad's attack gets sun runner. let's say it does. now with all attacks done, you wait patiently for a staff member to give you the results.

the results will look like this:
THE RESULTS
attack 1
sun runner -- jugular bite -- tears hair out of vlad's neck -- then there'll be a quick explanation like so: 'oh details were good. getting hair from the mane though, doesn't do much damage. la la la la'
vladimir -- kick aimed for chest -- kick actually lands on shoulder -- 'nice attack. would definitely do some damage. detail is good, describing, blah blah blah'
then we'd let you know who won attack one.
attack 2
sun runner -- hoof pounding -- gets vlad's back and neck -- 'extremely good attack. beautifully detailed. could possibly kill vlad blah blah blah'
vladimir -- jugular bite -- lands -- 'could've done more. weak end move. ta ta ta ta'
then the winner of attack two would be announced.
overview
sun runner -- great posts, compliments, maybe wicked has places she needs to improve on, blah blah blah. this is basically compliments and advise
vladimir -- same goes here.
veredict
the winner is announced.

you're probably asking yourself "well how do i win"? honestly, it's about detail. i know that you guys are just beginners but you'd be amazed at how much clarity will do for you. you may type up a short post but then it's full of awesomeness, you have a chance of winning.
` always describe how your character is feeling. is he/she intimidated? do they think the prize is worth the fight? how bad do they want to win?
` describe your character physically. are they sweaty? bloody? are they quick and speedy or built to pound things into the ground?
` always mention the weather. seriously, describe the environment around you.
really guys, it's all about detail. i know you're new to the site and maybe you're completely new to the site. if you lose, don't be discouraged. after you grow and role play with others, you'll be great. so honestly, if you lose a fight, don't get all bummed, you can always do it again later. you gotta put your heart and mind into your battle posts. they don't have to be lengthy, but filled with clear details. if you read your post and can't picture the fight in your head, then you need to edit it. that's the biggest tip i can give you. if you can see the battle, you're doing fantastic. if your words are clear enough that you can clearly see what's going on, you're closer to winning.
