The sounds of her trot echoed behind her off the red stone walls and the shallow stream running next to her. The sand was cool and flitted around her fetlocks as she carefully monitored every sound and movement. She had followed a scent as she wound her way through the canyons. The scent was equine, she was sure, and she was sure, almost positive, that it would lead her to the open lands. She had been traveling for a long time from lands lost to her. She had run away from her fathers herd, after her mother had passed away. Her mother had been lead for many years, but another mare, a bitter mare, had set a trap for Rebecca, EliZa's mother, and Rebecca perished in the sand pit. So EliZa turned against the herd and was looking for something different, something new, something worthwhile.
As she came to a vertical wall that stretched to the clouds, EliZa halted. She twisted her head around, trying to get a look at where the path might lead now. She couldn't catch the scent anymore, and night was a few moments away. She could already her the whirring of bats and the buzz of the few flies. She nickered to herself, pushing herself on. But her thirst got the best of her for the moment. She walked to the edge of the small stream, looked quickly around her, then lowered her head and dipped her muzzle into the water. It was warm, but it quenched her thirst.
As she lifted her head, she caught her reflection. Her bode was streaked with dirt and sweat, clinging to her tight muscular frame. For a 2 year old she was lean and tight, her last few months forcing her to become as tough as a stallion. But her heart hadn't changed. She missed her family, and wished dearly that things had turned out differently. But she can't change the past, she reminded herself. She could only change her future. Which is why she is here. She wants to be part of a herd again, but she had lost the scent. Perhaps the herd was close by? She lifted her head and let out her shrill whinny. Would anyone respond?

There was no doubt, no way in the heavens anyone could stop the lick of sunlight's happiness, she was free one again. The white Spaniard had been over thrown giving Sun Prancer her freedom again till she found a home that actually fit her. Galloping with a spring to every step across the lands venturing away from the North to see the other corners of MUSTANG. Long golden tassels fluttered side to side softly lashing her elegant boaw as the wind created by the vixen's accumulated interia. Four white socks lead the way into the western lands, so far emerald optics had taken in quite a few sights that were more than pleasing.
Sun Prancer slowed seeng a rather intregeing sight before her, it was starting to become dusk as it was clear she was at the top edges of a canyon. Lowering her golden crown sniffing the ledge of which had a thin ridge path to follow down into the bowels of the crack in the earth. Suddenly her harks pricked at a sudden shrill whinny coming from below, was someone lost? Always one to worry for others she knew such a place could be dangerous at night. Letting out her own loud whinny to the fellow equine, the palomino vixen started to slowly descend hoping the other would come into sight soon. Perhaps they could follow her voice, so she let out several more whinnies spaced out to give direction. Taking each step carefully to not fall to her own death

She was still searching the walls to find the trail she had lost when she froze. She heard a noise, coming from above! It sounded like another young mare, like herself. Her relief flooded into her and she loudly whinnied. She listed carefully then, and heard an answer coming from a small ravine that she hadn't noticed. It took a slight leap up onto a ledge, but her young legs easily made the move. She heard the whinny and carefully followed it. The footing up the ravine was hazardous, and there were multiple hidden drops that she barely had time to notice. She whinnied again, and as she rounded a tight corner saw, a few ways above her, a sight for sore eyes. A fellow equine. EliZa whinnied excitedly and began pushing herself further, carefully taking each step.
The other equine was indeed female, and somewhat close to her own age. EliZa shook her mane excitedly, a shower of dust escaping. She took one last high step and was on the same path as the other mare now. She paused, hesitant to trust a stranger in the dusk, even though this strange had perhaps saved her from spending a night trapped. She nickered a confident and yet respectful Hello. EliZa could barely contain her excitement, though, at being here at the beginning of her own life and the chance for her first friend in this land, so she absentmindedly pawed the sand. She watched the muscles tense and release as the other mare approached, definitely youthful movements. Perhaps this mare and her could start a life as friends? Perhaps this could be the start of a herd of their own? After all in a land of stallions, one mare can be trampled but two could hold their own.

To pleased harks came the echoing sound of a response, and slowly after giving her own position away the femme voice was getting closer. The palomino stopped at a section in the ridged-path that would be narrowly possible to turn around at but it would be possible. Before the fellow equine was in sight it was a guess the other was a younger filly, which Prancer would not mind. It was more welcomed to see her guess was true seeing her come around the corner into sight. Though the golden vixen had just turned five, her bodice was untainted by the burden of a foal. Looking more of a three year old with her curves still ripe and toned, no excessive weight of a foal laden body.
A warm smile adorned Prancer's features hearing the fillies excited nicker, she returned it with a bob of her crown, "I'm Sun Prancer. Please follow me the rest of the way up. " Her voice firm but soft as she turned around on the ledge carefully not to over step. Looking back to keep an eye on the new comer before commencing to lead the way to the top. "What brought you so far down there?" She asked to start up a conversation, showing she was not a grouch knowing those were never fun to meet. Keeping harks alert to hear the other vixen's responce as they soon neared the top of the canyon once again.

EliZa paid careful attention to her footing as she walked quickly in step behind Sun Prancer. She could feel her limbs tiring with the steep climb. She listened politely to Prancers instructions and questions. "I had been following a herd from outside MUSTANG and got quite lost. Thank you for helping me." EliZa knew she would have been stuck without Prancers help. She hastened her walk as she felt a breeze. They must be nearing the rim of the canyon.
EliZa wondered why her new friend was alone. Perhaps she had gotten lost, or stolen, or abandoned? Or was she simply ready to start her own herd and had left her family? These questions, and others, were lost in the confused tangle of EliZa's thoughts. She was about to voice them outloud when they reached the rim and MUSTANG opened out around them. It took EliZa's breath away. Such a large and magnificent country. She stood staring for a while, until the crisp night breeze buffeted her tired form. What she heard next made her heart swell with joy. There must be a large river in the distance, and she could imagine how great a bath would feel. But how to get there? She turned and looked at Prancer, and nickered. "Could you show me where I could wash off and rest?" she asked Prancer. Though she was young, EliZa had traveled far and needed a place to refresh and rest.

They bridged the top finally, shaking herself out after such a tense clambering on the rocky edges, giving room to her new found friend to leave the edge. Lost following another herd, the golden maiden wondered if it was her old herd she'd left to come here. She wondered if her mother was alright and handling it well without her there and the crude stallion that had taken over lead. Perhaps there was a new one by now and they were happier, Prancer didn't know but knew she wasn't going to go back. "Oh well I'm happy I was able to help you before it was completely dark down there. It gets scary in places like that."
Nodding though not knowing this area the greatest she remembered passing a flowing stream on her way to the canyon area. "This way I believe, I haven't ventured these western lands so much but I know where a stream is. " Glancing back at the younger filly before leading the way it wouldn't take long from what she remembered. "By the way what do they call you? Have any idea what you are going to do now after loosing that herd?" The palomino mare asked in curiousity, not really thinking to tell her own story as all just wondering about the chocolate filly. Entering the tree line and foliage, the sound of rushing water getting louder.

((ooc: Just realized both have water falls in the backgrounds. That's awesome))
