Her past is pleasant, her future destined for greatness. The present? Well, who knows. After all, a gift is a secret until it is opened, and for River, the secret remains as such. She grazed quietly and solemnly, humming a tune specific to her. It was a sweet melody, the notes travelling up and down as she hit every one with ease. The spotted horse has had experience with the sound of music. Her mother was the most beautiful singer, and her brother could make any swooning filly cry out with untouched pleasure. River has not made her debut yet, but she knew in her heart that somebody will love her tune, and she will pass it on to all her offspring.
But first, she needed to meet others. Frowning at her loneliness, she lifted her shapely head, her black spots shining out brilliantly on her snow white coat. She was the dalmatian of any horse group, and she loved it. It is unique. Nobody could pretend to be her. Her white forelock shifted in front of her eyes, but she didn't move to flick it out of the way. It held some sort of captivating mystery, and created a feeling of "spyness" in the mare. Oh, how she longed for action. To be the center of everybody's attention as she saved the day. As you can see, River is a dreamer. She knew she could never save a life. At least, not how she sees it.
The stocky mare lowered her head down again, her ears flickering back and forth to listen to the creek on one side, and the woods at the other. Maybe somebody will come, maybe not. But River is determined to make friends. It is essential for her life plan.

His withers reached high and proud, they bobbed in off-beat rhythm with his black hind. His neck sloped lightly to his lively head, his black forelock twisted and slid over his handsome face, it reached over his burning amber eye, so alive. A scent wafted over his senses, it was a mare. He wasn't overly-eager, usually it was the girls that came running to him. He was all so handsome. As he liked to put it, 'hard to resist.' A picture flitted over his mind's eye, a beautiful mare, throwing herself upon him happily. With this, he picked up a steady trot, only slightly more eager to see his adoring fan. However, as he made his way through the forest, a spotted mare came to view. "Oh," he said "hey." His step slowed to a stop next to her. Gaze fixated on her eyes. She wasn't particularly excited that he'd been there. He stood a great height of 17'3hh, almost 18hh, the mare beside him looked utterly tiny, as did most others. She was spotted with a light mane and tail. 'Pretty' he thought lamely. She didn't have his extensive giraffe-like pattern down her back, she was a bit more traditional, not that she wasn't unique. His eyes looked her up and down sceptically before speaking again. "So, you up to something?" It was confidently spoken, as if she was the one who had run up to him and she was the intruder. Despite his somewhat rude attitude, he simply wanted someone to entertain him. Maybe she could be a friend, or perhaps even be something to pick on. Who knows? He was here, and that's all that mattered now. It was her turn to play the cards. ooc: Sorry, I'm still getting used to him Shatter || stallion || thoroughbred x friesian || 4 yrs || Black with white lacing on back || 17'3 || Amber eyes ||[/blockquote][/blockquote]

Her elegant head lifted as a tall stallion approached her. River tossed her ivory hair out of her eyes, revealing their swirling darkness. Backing up so she could see the stallion fully, she let her musical voice carry to his ears. "Hmm, could not even spare me a full hello? It will have to do. 'Hey' to you also."
She felt his eyes on her, and admittedly, she didn't like it. Usually, she enjoyed being the center of attention, but she was skeptical about the stallion who wouldn't even spare her a proper greeting. Her grinning mouth lost height as he lazily asked of her actions. If she could raise an eyebrow, she would have.
"As a matter of fact...no. Why? Do you have something more interesting in mind?". Her tone held no interest in the stallion. For her to be interested, he would have to earn it, and so far, he hasn't. The horse seemed quite rude, and that didn't fly with the Appaloosa.

Invite me in, I'm harmless. Run away or fight? I'll simply settle down in your heart, and feast on your soul. "Hmm, could not even spare me a full hello? It will have to do. 'Hey' to you also." The stallion's very first thought at these words were, 'Why is everyone so formal now days? Seriously, re-lax.' Paired with his thoughts, his burning amber eyes lit and rolled in his sockets. Hopefully this one wouldn't be overly polite in every single way out there. Like his granddam, for instance. However, it had to be the only thing she could complain about, I mean really, who objects to his 'vibe.' Not unlike others she had tried to express her displeasure by commenting on his wording. What he found overly-amusing about this was, Shatter was a master at words. Though at first glace you may think he was arrogant, though I'm not claiming he wasn't, mindless stallion. While in truth he was so intelligent he would over-do his enemies with tricks. "As a matter of fact...no. Why? Do you have something more interesting in mind?" Her next words eased an amused laugh from his lungs. She should know better than to ask that. And so, he would tell her. "My my little lady, you should know better than to ask something so general in the Springtime. Your lucky I'm here, other studs would have pounced upon you in moments." By her sheer displeasure the black stallion leaned his head down mockingly and stood closer, "Don't worry, I'll protect ya'." It was meant as a tease, a friendly one. However, as he said it he thought of the forcebreeding stallions that could be watching and had a sudden tremor of worry for the mare. The emotion sprung its way into his speech. The result's ending was, though the words were spoken lightly, they had a touch of seriousness. As if to secretly insure her that he would protect her. Perhaps she would discover the softer, much more likable Shatter. She frowned at his eye-roll. Didn't this stallion have any manners? River has grown up with those who politeness was a must. Any other speech was intolerable and punishable. It was beat into her, slowly and painfully, but now it was stuck for life.
His next words sent a shiver of reality down her spine, and she involuntarily lowered her ears in slight, momentary fright. Her dark eyes quickly glanced around, and making sure they were alone, returned to the stallion. She had not thought about the rouge stallions that could lurk to her side. She had no want of a foal right now, she couldn't afford it. It wasn't in the plans!
Her audits returned to their full height when the stallion mockingly took the the role of the 'protector'. His voice held a teasing tone, but the end of his sentence held more weight. What did he want? Deciding to play along with his little charade, she tilted her head and offered a peaceful grin.
And what is the name of my knight in shining armor, she spoke with mock tease. She took the daring chance and shifted her weight to one hoof, leaving the other in an angled pose. Her hips were sideways, she doesn't do this often. Swishing her tail back and forth slowly, she waited for a response. The tall stallion seemed to loom over her, and she didn't offer her name. At least not until he asked...politely.

Sure, he had a very true point. However, it wasn't so much what he said that was awkward to him. It was the fact that he had dropped his walls for a moment. One small barely audible split moment. He coughed then shook his head and neck out, as if trying to whip that feeling away and build his walls stronger and higher than before. He stood up, much taller and more distant then when he had first approached the lady. One of his black ears twitched when she spoke, and he half smiled half grimaced. Though his words were poisonous. "Shatter, that's my name." The stallion's usual cunning self seemed to have suddenly returned as he spoke once again, sly and sarcastic. "I do often get mistaken to be a knight." He rolled his eyes, a larger much more real smile covered his grimace "The ladies, I can't get them to leave me alone!"Turning around to make eye-contact again, he noticed her relaxed stance. But it seemed, oddly stiff. Like she might not do that often. Was she trying to act casual? A soft chuckle sounded from his maw at the sight. Not because he thought she looked dumb, in fact, he didn't quite know why he was laughing. Maybe because she was trying to look casual, who knows why the stallion did anything? River backed away a couple of steps as Shatter straightened to his full height. His words dripped vilely, pricking and stabbing at her ears and mind. Her eyes rolled in their sockets. How vain...The stallion gave her the feeling of profound conceitedness. She was unmoved by his comments, and bored, she lowered her head to snatch a couple of bites of the bland blades.
Without moving her head back up, she sent a slight glare up to the stallion. He seemed to be making fun of her, giggling like a filly at her uncomfortable stance. Insulted, she moved further from the stallion, flicking her tail up and down irritably. Maybe he wasn't jabbing at her, but it came across that way. If he couldn't keep a lady away, she was determined to break that streak. Keeping her noggin low, she walked slowly away, keeping one ear locked behind her to catch any movement from the stallion.
Stopping before she crossed that line between being able to detect his movements and being completely vulnerable to surprises, she turned her body to eye him again. Blowing through her nostrils, she let her mind empty, wiping it clean again before he spoke another word. If he wanted to continue the conversation, she hoped the walk over her would clear his head as well. She wanted company, and had to force herself to leave his, but she also wanted the company civil and without vile words. If she had stayed, there would be just those that would leave her mouth. Who knows what he would do then?
She again lowered her head to graze, hoping to raise it to see the dark stallion approach her again.

ooc: I hope you don't mind the intrusion, I just couldn't resist
Darker then fire, lighter then ebony or maroon. That was Fever's color. She was a liver chestnut, well muscled, with a very girlish figure. It was hard to beat off stallions, but during the spring it was a favorite past time of the fae. A slight bump protruded from her originally flat stomach, ruining her innocent look. The poor fools who approached realized soon enough she wasn't sweet or innocent.
Rolling her crown, the mare stretched before rising to her feet from a quick nap. They were a necessary in her mind and ever since the ebony black beast with a giraffeish pattern in white on his back had impregnated her, Fever had been bit hire and moodier then usual. Most likely due to her out of wack hormones and the fact the foal couldn't lay still. It would move about in her womb, causing minor aches and pains. That beast be damned, if she saw his handsome hide again, she would for sure scar it. Tossing her head in annoyance, Fever looked about, looking for an unfortunate victim for her to harass.
At the edge of the woods, her Kelly green pools searched the equally green hills. The summer heat was unbearable but extremely satisfying. A light layer of moisture covered her dark pelt, making it gleam wickedly in the bright sun. Gleaming farther out of the woods stood an ebony male with white giraffe-like pattern upon his back. So. The beast decided to laze around. With narrowed orbs, Fever edged half way out of the woods, ready to tear him apart. Only when a spotted mare moved away from his side did Fever act like any mare would do with a male she considered hers.
Flicking her thorns back in annoyance, Fever sauntered towards the male. With the mare farther from him, she could hopefully ruin him, like he had ruined her figure on that sickening spring day. Though her tummy wasn't as flat, her hips still looked as great as ever. Fever pranced towards him a michevious, venomous, amused look in her acid colored orbs. They glowed mockingly, like stars in the midnight sky, against her long, black lashes. Smirking wickedly she placed herself in his line of sight and flashed what seemed to be a lovey-Dovey smile towards. "Hello again handsome." Fever swooned sarcastically.

What an odd girl. One lazy smooth black ear swiveled back to listen to the somewhat familiar over-confidant saunter of Fever. Now was time to do something these two ladies had never seen from him. They might know him as an arrogant sarcastic stallion, however what they hadn't yet discovered was how easily and quickly he could change. By 'change' I mean change his appearance. No, not his color, but his temper and attitude. In fact, it was truly remarkable. He could change from one characteristic to another in a matter of moments. "Fever, darling. How nice it is to see you." He turned his gaze over to meet her green eyes, yes, there they were again. He spread a confident smile over his lips at the sight. "I see Spring has done you well." He paused in his speech to gesture at her slightly rounder stomach. "My my, excuse me for my rudeness! This is... Well, I never did find out what your name was now did I?" He peered over at the spotted mare in genuine curiosity, expecting her to tell him her name. She spotted the dark red horse on the edge of the meadow. Her saunter and the slightly rounded mid-section confirmed her as pregnant. River's ears pricked just in time to hear the words that slipped from her velvet lips. They just dripped with sarcasm, and a little red flag flew up in the spotted horse's mind. River has no interest in mingling with those who haven't the pleasure in decent conversation, something she was proving with Shatter. It seemed that she was getting somewhere with the stallion before the intrusion.
River showed obvious surprise when the stallion spoke with decency and respect. Her head tilted to one side, and with slight distrust, moved closer to the group that had decided to gather. A smile started to pull at her mouth. It wasn't a sarcastic grin, but one that appeared when one was happily satisfied. And River was defiantly satisfied with the politeness that Shatter chose to speak with. Not that she has any reason to think that she could be able to make a gentleman out of a seemingly rude boy. She was not is mother.
She left her thoughts as Shatter asked for her name. At least that question held respect, and with respect, she lifted her head and spoke. My name is River. She glanced between the bay and black, seeing the familiarity that flashed between them. It is obvious that you know each other. Should you want time alone, please tell me. The last thing River desired was to be caught in a domestic struggle, whether it prove to be good or bad.

Fever snorted at Shatter's suddenly polite demeanor. Poser. He was much more attractive as his original self, cocky and rude. It was so appealing and similar to her own personality. She rolled her lime colored pools sarcastically but giggled like a flirty filly. Shatter had changed personalities quickly with surprising success but she could play the make believe game just as well. "Just fine, love. Though this foal of yours is quite the load. I'm assuming you'll stick around so it won't grow up fatherless?" Fever countered with a sickly sweet smile. Her words were laced with sweetness and innocence, everything she wasn't. Batting her eyes up at the tall figure she stood beside him as the nameless spotted mare approached.
With another high pitched giggle, Fever pressed her slightly rounded body against Shatter's and pasted on another ear to ear grin. "It's SO nice to meet you River! I'm Fever. It's so nice he's getting out and about with other equines. Isn't honey?" Fever cooed annoyingly before giving a quick little nip, one her dam called a love bite on his massive neck. He would have to play along with the polite thing or go back to the personality Fever knew and liked best. Either way, Fever would win this little battle.

Invite me in, I'm harmless. Run away or fight? I'll simply settle down in your heart, and feast on your soul. Both mares seemed, surprised in one way or another by his impressive acting skills. Though he, wasn't surprised at all. Of course they would be interested, and intrigued. Or disgusted. Either or. Well, it seemed to please River, as she had just introduced herself as, rather well. She actually smiled. Fever of course, well of course she would hate it. She was just that kind of girl. But who was he to please two ladies? Who was he to please anyone? He'd certainly not cared before, why care now? With a dis-pleased flick of his long silky black tail, Shatter cast a glance into the shadows, as if he would rather be anywhere else but here. It was a suddle cue. He wasn't even sure if anyone had seen it, or noticed. Did he care? No, he wasn't going to run around switching personalities on cue just for some girls to like him. He had already done his job with Fever. River however... Well it wasn't Spring anyways. When Fever gave a painfully girlish giggle Shatter had to wince. It was disgusting. Though it was a very small wince. Taring his beautiful amber eyes away from the forest's darkness, he rolled into the conversation casually, his politeness strengthened in conversation. "You truly don't think it is wise to have me stick around and be a, 'father' do you, dove? Parenthood isn't such a good thing. Ask around, I'm sure you didn't particularly enjoy your parents. Especially with the way your lovely self turned out." He winked, as if it was perfectly exceptable to say such things. Lets see how far she would let him take it. He felt the mare next to him press into his side, then nip his large neck lovingly. Though it sounds odd, he found this rather attractive. Sure, he wasn't the youngest thing out there. That didn't mean he didn't like lust, or close proximity. "Oh River, I'm so sorry for not telling you Fever's name!" He said in a genuine politeness. "She's my... Er, friend." Yes, acting embarrassed was a nice touch to his act. Then he added for effect and to find out what Fever would do. "We're expecting." Then he turned his massive black noble head to nuzzle at Fever's barely swollen stomach. Admittibly, it was hard reaching, not because he's neck was too short, oh goodness no, but because she was so very close next to him. River just had to roll her eyes at the mare. She was becoming a hindrance on her day. Her eyes stole a glance at the stallion. It seemed he was just as annoyed. He had looked at the shadows, though River doesn't think he knew that she saw him. But she agreed with his want to leave. This was becoming boring, and she wanted to excuse herself. Her white dreads flicked against her flanks as she thought up a way to say goodbye.
Her eyes joined with Shatter's as he spoke. There seemed to be a rift between the two, and River silently backed away. Not out of fear of a fight, but to see if they notice. If she could steal away, there would be no hard feelings, but Shatter had stated words that were directed at her. Uh, congratulations? The black seemed hardly happy about Fever's want of a father for her foal, and she seemed overly joyed for it.

Fever had to bury her slightly dished, noble head into Shatter's silky black mane to keep herself from laughing. This game was MUCH to fun. And it was annoying the spotted made and striped stallion with ease. Shatter had winced at her giggle and the mare had simply rolled her eyes. HA! Fever was certain she was winning until Shatter mentioned her parents. It had been two or three years ago when she succesfully had them murdered along with every other annoying adult in her herd. It had been so easy and satisfying, yet Fever still shuddered and feared the power she held over her parents assassins, a gang of foals that would die to please her. Fever wasn't meant to hold power over others, she was a lone warrior. She fought her own battles without others to back her up. She didn't need others.
"Asshole." Fever murmered softly into his ebony coat so only he would hear before pulling her head away with a fake smile that stretched across her velvet mug like taffy. "My parents were much to... Oh I don't know, scared? To do the things I could do an a heartbeat, love. And what about you? I could see you being momma's little prince. Or daddy's punching bag? Which is it?" Fever questioned, her words now laced with venom. "And the only way this foal will survive this world is to be taught correctly. Not the ninny stuff mares teach their foals now, much darker things." Fever cooed lightly, her green pools dancing with amusement. He would probably put her through hell with the comment she made about his childhood but it was worth it.
"Yes we are! And I'm positive it's going to be a little girl! You know, mother's instinct? Aren't you excited babe?" Fever questioned Shatter with another CHEEZY grin.
occ-- I <3 Fever and Shatter together. She def. doesn't like River though, no offense unusual. She just doesn't like other mares. I put my name in this post :O

Invite me in, I'm harmless. Run away or fight? I'll simply settle down in your heart, and feast on your soul. Poor River. Though the thought only barely traced his head. She had to be dying over there. He had to admit he wasn't one for jumping through hoops for women. Okay, River obviously wasn't doing that, but she was sitting around watching two horses that plainly knew each other bicker and call one another 'love.' Sounds like hell. Oh wait, he was one of them. He was barely surprised when she started backing away. He would too. Only, maybe a bit more with an angry face... "Why thank you River, and I do apologize for us being so very rude to you." His baritone was deep and gravely. He was cut-off when Fever decided to bury her face into his long black mane. He looked down at her curiously, then heard her speak. Ahh yes, he chuckled at her words. Or rather, word. He was entirely that indeed. Though he took it as a light complement, and smiled a devious grin. His past life? Or rather, his parents? She would never understand. And he wasn't quite ready to expose their death and his royal blood to her yet... It was all too complicated to unfurl in a simple retort. Though a glimpse she shall have. "My parents? Well, I shalt not tell you more than their burning corpses." He said, continuing, "I don't see how my childhood is necessary, to talk of such gruesome things around strangers. Not only was it gruesome, but it was quite powerful indeed."Perhaps that was enough for her to figure out the rest. Of his veins, pulsing with royal blood, maybe not enough information about his family... But enough for now. "As for teaching it correctly, well I wouldn't think you the type to teach, 'ninny stuff.' Non-the-less, I will bless our child with my being from time to time. Maybe even teach her a few tricks." he grinned broadly and flicked his well-groomed tail at her rump.
