The Beginning in the End {Blaidd}

Pecha's head was low, trying to relieve the pressure to her hindquarters. Since Faolan had disappeared she'd stayed hidden deep within the caverns, not willing to allow others to see her. A groan rolled through her as another forceful wave washed over her. The foal was ready to come out, she wanted it out. Dingey pale limbs collapsed beneath the far too thin mare and a sigh huffed from her. The only fleshy part of her body - her stomach - rose and fell with each breath.

Grinding her worn down ivories, the malnourished femmora gave her best effort to give life. When her straining met resistance, she knew something was wrong, so gravely wrong. However, the petite mare didn't have much left in her and she fought through the searing flames that welled up within her bodice. With limbs shaking and muscles quivering, a final push brought her son into the world. He was strong, she could see that much through her blurring eyes. After two attempts, the dark colt was on his thick legs, wobbling along her length.

Ah there you are, Blaidd...My littlest wolf. A dry rasp shuddered throughout the dam, and her vision went dark. The fires of her pain subsided, and her heart finally lay at rest...

She kept a very close and watchful eye on her baby, her ears alert for any dangerous noises. She would be like this all the way back home. She was just about to reach the edge of the birthing land, Angel's Reign, when she heard a raspy sound. Her blue orbs shot towards the sound and she held her breath, listening. It was then she noticed a limp figure laying on the ground and a newborn colt standing beside it. Aphrodite's heart sank. She knew what had happened but she could hardly believe it. The foal's mother had died giving birth. Aphrodite reached her dished head down to nudge her own colt, she let out a small whisper, "Stay here, honey, I'll be right back." The mare trotted over to the smokey black colt. He was smaller than her own foal, but he looked strong. Her tawny mug broke into a small, reassuring smile, saddened for this colt. "Come honey, your going to come with me and my son. Okay?" Perseus watched from a distance, his blue and curious eyes watching his mother and the brown colt. Aphrodite thought to herself, Well, Bayn going to have quite a surprise now that she's bringing him two colts. Aphrodite looked at the mare one last time before turning away. She had never seen this mare before in her life, but she promised to her that she would make sure her colt would be well taken care of.

Ears drooped at the though of his dam, who lay still on the earth at his feet. This mare was warm and she smelled good. Fire licked down his throat and his little, pink tongue felt heavy in his mouth. Wide eyed, he gazed at the dam, wondering if she would let him drink. The urge to crawl under her belly and poke around until he found what he needed was almost overwhelming. But the female was so desperately tall and Blaidd wasn't quite that bold yet. Moving - trudging rather - towards the sweet scented lady, the smoky colt wickered in hopes of seeing acceptance before he explored more. Waiting patiently for her reply he informed her of his name, My name is Blaidd...she said I was a little wolf! A grin spread over tiny kissers, and a fluffy fan spanked his small flanks excitedly. But behind his dark eyes, there were tears that glazed his sight over. [blaidd - mix breed - smoky black - 15.3hh - brown - newborn]
